The idea of having a place in Tenerife for Shang Shung School of Tibetan Medicine that could be the reference school for Europe was something that CHNN, the founder of the International School, expressed many times and on different occasions. Professor Norbu used to say that Traditional Tibetan Medicine had a great potential to benefit human beings.
In 2016, after a beautiful course that Dr. Phuntsog Wangmo gave on hospice training in Dzamling Gar, this idea started to take shape.
At that time we had no place and almost no means but in 2 years time, thanks to the blessing of the founder, the strong determination and the full dedication of the Director of the International School Dr. Phuntsog Wangmo and to the hard work of only 2 collaborators, the Shang Shung School of Tibetan Medicine Tenerife launched its first courses: Kunye for hands and feet, introduction to diet and mental illnesses from the point of view of Tibetan Medicine. Fulfilling the wish of its founder, the school finally had an official physical place: the Tibetan Medicine House in Dzamling Gar.
During these last 3 years we have grown and improved our educational offering: our team is now composed of 7 people, among them 2 qualified Tibetan Medicine therapists fully trained by the International School of Tibetan Medicine. Now we are able to offer 2 complete and certified training in 3 languages (English, Spanish and Chinese): the full training in Kunye and external therapies and the one in Diet and lifestyle. We have also offered a few short courses.
Half of our programs are now online and that allows much more people around the world to enroll in our courses. In the Tibetan Medicine house, it is possible to receive Tibetan medicine consultation and a wide range of external therapies by our qualified therapists.
In these 5 years we have seen more and more people interested in traditional Tibetan Medicine and the Shang Shung School of Tibetan Medicine Tenerife has become an important educational point of reference for those in Europe interested in the Tibetan healing system.
All this was done counting only on our forces!
And today we can proudly say that the School of Tibetan Medicine is a self-sustainable project.
The good results we have obtained so far motivate us to move forward with the intention of fulfilling the founder’s desire and to be able to spread the precious knowledge of Tibetan Medicine through our courses and our public activities and to make it possible for an increasing number of people to benefit from the healing practices of Traditional Tibetan Medicine.
In the near future we are planning to:
- Increase our online educational offering. We are currently working on new programs!
- Improve the quality of our online learning by integrating an educational platform.
- Start a scholarship program that will allow students with difficult financial conditions to access our courses.
- Publication of the entire Teachings on Traditional Tibetan Medicine based on original tantras and the commentaries of Dr. Phuntsog Wangmo as a collaboration of the team of the School of Tibetan Medicine in USA with the Shang Shung Institute Austria
